Voice Note records a spoken idea into a knowledge base so you can find it later. Use Dictation when you want text typed into another app instead.

Before you start

Create or choose a Knowledge Base for your notes. Voice Note has no hotkey until you set one.

Set up the hotkey

  1. Open Settings → Voice Note.
  2. Click Voice Note Hotkey and press the shortcut you want. Choose whether you hold it or press it.
  3. Set Save to to the knowledge base your notes go into. It starts as Default Knowledge Base.

Record a note

  1. Press your Voice Note Hotkey and say a short note. In hold mode, hold the shortcut while you speak.
  2. Release the shortcut, or use the recording controls, to end the recording. The note is saved.
  3. Open the destination knowledge base and review the saved item and its transcription.

Make notes easier to find

Say the subject and useful names in the recording, for example: “Project Atlas: ask the designer for the updated onboarding icons.” Check important names, numbers, and dates in the transcript before you rely on them.
